scripted film 1 'i can't wait for you , i won't wait for you '

On the 25th of October, we were asked to create a short film following the script above. We were put in groups of three and given 45minutes to create a short video, the key elements were following the camera angles shown in the script/storyboard. As a group, you were allowed to decide genre and location, and minor alterations to the script were allowed as long as they were verified with our teacher.

I was in a group with Jana and Carl. As a group we each came up with different ideas of what we thought would work with the script these ideas included a love story, a getaway, and a school scene. We discussed each scene and how and why we each thought it would work however in the end we went with the school scene as we had the perfect setting for this to take place, the school scene was Carl's idea.

Who did what?

As a group, we discussed each other's strengths and decided that I and Jana would act, Carl was the cameraman and finally Jana would edit and I would direct as well as find fitting music for the scene.

What went well?

We had very good mise on scene available as we were doing a clip-based in a classroom which was widely available, we also had folders and pencil cases available as props, this allowed us to clearly set the scene. As a group, we worked very well together and ended up being very efficient, creating a video that matched all the criteria asked for and done at a very decent quality considering the time given. I found that having the whole group looking over the editing allowed for a better quality of video as each individual's idea enhanced the clip in different ways, adding rebellious music set a different tone for the video allowing the viewer to decipher the genre of the video. Carl's work with the camera allowed for easy transitions in the editing of the video, which was greatly appreciated.

What didn't go well?

As a group, we spent a lot of time discussing ideas. This was not beneficial with the time frame given. We discussed the script and tried to make small alterations which took a lot of discussion and agreement this however took time that was not necessary. In the editing, the non-diegetic music jumps a bit losing its impact.

Something I have learned from this

I learned that the time we are given goes by very quickly and therefore everything you are about to film needs to be deeply pre-planned so that no time is wasted during the shoot.
